Back Pain Blues: Guide To Overcome Back Pain Naturally

Posted on: 27 February 2015

You think you found the answer to back pain relief with over-the-counter medicine, but then you read the warning label. Do not fret, because there are natural ways to relieve back pain. You should be back to that 'old' you in no time with the help of your back specialist and the following guide.

Join The Dark Side

Believe it or not, chocolate contains powerful pain-killing properties. The cacao bean, especially the bark, contains anandamide. Anandamide is an active ingredient that your brain uses to trigger the production of serotonin and more anandamide. These neurotransmitters make your brain feel good and stop your brain from detecting pain.

You need to make sure you get chocolate that still contains the bark to get the full painkilling effect. That means you should purchase raw chocolate or the darkest chocolate you can find.

Pop A Seed

You probably remember reading about the dangers of opium addiction, which are quite real. But you can avoid the addictive properties of opium by simply consuming poppy seeds, a safe and legal alternative. Studies have shown that poppy seeds can help you sleep if your pain has been disturbing your rest.

Try some of the following methods to consume poppy seeds:

  • Lemon poppy seed muffins
  • Poppy seed tea
  • Poppy seed salad dressing

Just make sure the poppy seeds are organic and unaltered to ensure you receive the natural pain-killing properties.

Beware The Pain-Inducer

There are several substances your body produces in order to make you feel pain. One of the most prominent is glutamate. Glutamate is responsible for alerting and helping your brain sense pain. You do need this substance, but you may need to reduce its quantity, at least until you regain control over your back pain.

Minimize your intake of the following foods that are high in glutamate:

  • Aged cheeses and dairy
  • Soy products like soy sauce
  • Walnuts
  • Tomatoes
  • Grapes
  • Mushrooms

This is just a temporary restriction until you and your back specialist get to the bottom of your back pain. Besides, most of these foods are good for you and should be slowly reintroduced into your diet when your back specialist says it is okay.

Remember to use these tips along with your back-related exercises and treatment. These pain-reducing suggestions are meant to help simple back issues, not cure them. And always talk to a back specialist like Southwest Florida Neurosurgical Associates about what you are doing; he or she will help monitor your reaction.
